Juan Sisay's belief is that education is enriched by direct
exposure to different cultures; we offer daily activities that
enable students to directly participate in Guatemalan culture.
Activities include conferences, discussions, films, and
excursions. Possible excursions are climbing the Santa Maria
volcano for an outstanding view of the entire area; relaxing in
the hot springs or natural steam baths in the surrounding
mountains; visiting the indigenous pueblo of Zunil where the
idol San Simón (a mixture of Christian and Mayan beliefs) is
worshipped; or a trip to the market of San Francisco el Alto,
one of the largest and liveliest markets of the country.

School dinners and fiestas are set up and cooking classes are
also possible. Weekly conferences on political and social
aspects of the country are led by knowledgeable speakers.
(Activities do not interfere with the five hours of daily
instruction.)
Feel free to contact us before you arrive if you are interested
in a specific activity. If available we will schedule your
desired activity during the weeks you are attending school.

Each week Juan Sisay presents enviromental and cultural plays
for disadvantage school children. These plays are a great way to
practice your Spanish and entertain children who have very
little access to this type of medium.
