Welcome to Utatlán Spanish School

We are a Spanish school based right in the center of beautiful Quetzaltenango, Guatemala’s second largest city, set in the Sierra Madre mountains in the western highlands. Here at Utatlan we are dedicated to offering our students excellence in Spanish language study, cultural activities and opportunities to learn about life in Guatemala, It is our our aim is that each and every one of our students learns more than just the language, but that they truly experience everything Guatemala has to offer and become part of our community.

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world with over 400 million speakers. If you put in the time to study Spanish you will:

Why study in Quetzaltenango?

Guatemala is famous for language instruction as the accent here is a fairly neutral Spanish accent, and it is not spoken at a very fast pace like in many countries. Traditionally Antigua was considered the place to study but now Quetzaltenango (or Xela as it is known locally) is often see as a more attractive alternative as there are fewer tourists and fewer English speakers, so you really have more opportunity to practice. It is also ideally located to be able to travel to other beautiful parts of the country at weekends and after you finish study.
